Happy Earth Day
[features below, but this is worth reading]
As you may know, today, April 22nd 2010, is Earth Day!
Earth Day was first launched as an environmental awareness event in 1970, in the US. Today it's celebrated worldwide, with the first International Earth Day celebrated in 1990 when 200 million people from 141 countries were involved in events.
This year events are being held around the world, some small, some likely to bring together thousands of people.
We only have one planet, but most of us in Canada use so much energy and resources to support our lifestyle, that if all 6.8 billion of us lived like it, we would need 5.75 planets. We strive for prosperity, health and to live for 80 years, but in doing so, we leave scars on the planet. Scars such as old open-cast mines - filling them with water doesn't make all the problems go away, forests cleared to make way for intensive argiculture in order to feed our growing population. The list is endless.
